Healthcare Construction

In Australia, compliance with health facility guidelines, accreditation standards, and rigorous safety protocols adds a layer of intricacy to the construction of healthcare facilities. These requirements are often complicated by the expectation that facilities remain operational during building works. This creates a project environment where careful staging, consultation with clinical teams, and meticulous coordination of services are essential to completing the build.

Kubale Constructions’ expertise is based on over 26 years of refining our practice and resources. Our team provides tailored solutions to ensure every project is completed to a high standard, with a focus on safety, quality, and programme delivery. We now have the capacity and resources in both Victoria and Queensland to deliver critical healthcare projects to our communities.

The West Gippsland Regional Hospital chose Kubale Constructions to extend and refurbish their existing Paediatrics Department facilities at their site in Warragul, Victoria. Works included the consulting suites and the internal fit-out and renovation of the Monash University Medical Training facility to a total value of $600k.

While the construction methods were conventional, the project was challenging because the building being renovated was in continual use. Construction staff needed to pay particular attention to noise, safety, access, and the presentation of the site.

This project was successfully completed on time and within budget.

Kubale Constructions successfully tendered for the contract to build new medical offices and a medical records storage facility for the Latrobe Regional Hospital. The new buildings were to be constructed on hospital land adjacent their existing facilities.

The project involved the construction of an architecturally designed 390 square metre stand-alone office building with another 535 square metre purpose designed storage building for medical records. This building contained fire protection throughout to reduce the risk to documents within. Both buildings were predominantly precast panel constructions and works included a large car park and the all the associated civil works.

The construction project was complicated by the need to work within an operational hospital site requiring additional sensitivity to public safety, subcontractor access and the presentation of the site. This project was successfully completed on time and within budget.

  • Precast panel construction
  • Complex operational site incl. managing risks to public safety
  • Fire protection materials and design features throughout

Frequently Asked Questions

What's involved in a medical fitout?

A medical fitout is a specialised interior construction service. Unlike a standard office fitout, it focuses on clinical functionality. This includes installing specialised joinery, partitions (such as lead-lined walls for imaging), specific plumbing for treatment rooms, medical-grade flooring and finishes, and ensuring the layout meets compliance for accessibility, workflows, and privacy.

What is a healthcare build?

A healthcare build is a construction project focused on creating or upgrading properties for medical purposes. Unlike standard commercial builds, these projects involve strict compliance and certification requirements and specialised functionality (like infection control) tailored to clinical operations. This is why working with specialist medical builders is important.

What makes healthcare construction different from standard commercial projects?

Healthcare construction is significantly more complex than standard commercial construction. Healthcare projects often include layers of technical, regulatory, and operational considerations that make them uniquely challenging. This can include strict regulatory requirements, specialised medical infrastructure, and more complex mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Because healthcare facilities rarely shut down, construction must often occur in 24/7 live environments.
